A new publication presents the results of two years of cave monitoring to investigate ventilation processes in Cueva Larga, a tropical cave in Puerto Rico. The findings emphasize that cave morphology strongly impacts ventilation processes.

In our clean laboratories we sometimes need to handle dangerous chemicals such as hydrofluric acid, we have conducted a safety training. This was mind opening regarding many minor risks which get easily overlooked. Well done.

Julius Förstel has the laser ablation system now coupld to the MC-ICPMS. The results look promissing for precision U-Th isotope measurements and thus in-situ U-series age screening. Real progress towards a new analytical capacity.

The coral students went for a short four day writting workshop to Senckenberg am Meer at Wilhelmshaven. Our colleagues offered a fantastic and motivating environment in which much scientific progress has been achieved. An unforgetable field trip thanks to our host Prof. Andere Freiwald.

Kai Nakajima has finished and defended his Bachelorthesis. A breakthrough regarding deep-sea coral Nd-isotope measurements. Thanks also to the University of the Azores providing the fossil coral fragments.
